WINTER MED REGIONAL ACTION PLANS
One of the key results of the WINTER MED project are the Regional Action Plans, a set of concrete actions and measures to tackle seasonality in tourism developed by six partner regions: Tuscany, Cyprus, South Aegean, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Corse and Balearic Islands.
The Regional Action Plans have been co-designed in two phases, the first one focusing on policy learning process and continuous social dialogue in partner regions and the second focusing on transnational networking and policy exchange between partners and their regional stakeholders.
What are the WINTER MED Regional Action Plans and what is their objective?
Each WINTER MED partner drafted a Regional Action Plan (RAP) based on the lessons learned from the previous phase of the project. The RAPs aim at defining and implementing actions that can reduce the tourism seasonality at the local and regional levels through the development of all-year-round sustainable and responsible tourism. Indeed, every RAP provides regional policy instruments to support this transition, defining actions to foster the diversification of tourism services and products. These documents were drafted with the support of local and regional stakeholders coming from the institutional, business (including SMEs) and educational sectors. Moreover, RAPs were adapted to the circumstances and global situation linked to the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.
How were RAPs designed?
Regional Action Plans were co-designed in two phases, the first one focusing on policy learning process and continuous social dialogue in partners regions, and the second on transnational networking and policy exchange between partners and their regional stakeholders’ groups.
Why are RAPs relevant?
RAPs are essential to avoid the fragmentation of policies among regions and ensure overall coordination and synergies among partners’ efforts. Also, the validation of the results coming out from the RAPs’ activities lead to the consolidation of the Final Transnational Strategy for all-year-round tourism in the Mediterranean islands.
